Area 38 (W. S. Wales) Area Show
AC, Gwenda Kesans reports on the area show…“Well the annual Area 38 Show at Pennard, in Swansea started a bit damp and gloomy, but thankfully competitors still turned up and were repaid with lovely weather and a very encouraging Judge in Sarah Wildy, who stepped in at short notice.
With numbers up on last year it provided some great competition with up to 7 turnouts contending some classes. The quality and obvious pride in their turnouts was lovely to see. The large ring and completely self contained show field proved a perfect setting for some novice horses and ponies on their first outing in the show ring. All behaved very well and are ones to watch in the future.
One such youngster, Maesmynach Rhapsody, managed to reduce it’s Whip and Groom to tears by not only behaving impecably all day, but also scooping the Grass Roots Championship. Well done Avis & Janet Purnell. Organising a show is a lot of work but seeing so many smiling faces does make it all worth while.
Photos are provided by Emma Arnold Photography, our Concours d’Elegance Judge on the day. Emma had a tough decision as all the turnouts were beautiful and she was very torn between two, but when describing the “flow” of the image, she eventually picked her winner as Alison Kesans with Monnington Verdi.
I must thank Swansea branch of the Pony Club, for allowing us to use their lovely field and facilities and also for providing the catering, with freshly made rolls and I must say
they make a lovely cup of tea. I am constantly looking of ways to make the show more appealing and next year I hope a Class including a Show Drive to the beautiful coast will be well supported.”
