This year camp will be held at the Monnington Stud – home of the famous Morgan horses – by kind permission of John Bulmer. This is at the beautiful Monnington Court, Herefordshire HR4 7NL.
For the BDS Wales juniors who submitted a driving portfolio – well done! The portfolios were excellent and if you entered one this year you have a subsidised place on our junior camp. The portfolios were sent away to be judged and it is expected that the results will be announced in a couple of weeks. You will then be notified of the cost for camp.
It’s with great pleasure that we open our BDS Wales camp 2018 to all juniors who are keen to take part – whether or not they submitted a portfolio or live in Wales We have tried to keep costs low and feel that under £30 a day represents very good value.
Camp costs : Full price for camp is just £110 in total – this will include:
- Your tuition
- Camping ( but you bring your tent and sleeping gear)
All horses are provided
Times and dates
All juniors to arrive at camp for 11am on Thursday 16th August . The committee of BDS Wales is keen to support the BDS Brian Sims Scholarship day on Sunday the 19th August and all attending camp are encouraged to take part, so camp extends to include the day, with parents invited to the main presentations at approximately 4pm on the Sunday 19th after which they collect the young drivers. The Brian Sims Scholarship gives youngsters the chance to win a generous bursary of £500 in each of the two age groups, Details are available on the BDS website under young drivers and everything will be carefully explained at camp so the youngsters feel well prepared and confident to take part.
Horses and ponies are provided for camp for the use of the junior drivers. This year there will be schoolmaster horses to suit all abilities and there should be a small pony pair and horse pair to drive.
Please see the attached form of the equipment that is required for camp this year. Please note that you must bring your own tent and equipment for camping although equipment for catering is provided.
Please make sure ALL forms are filled in.
No members may leave the site without special permission.
Pastoral Care Team
The full pastoral team is to be confirmed but includes BDS Wales adults well known to the children – including Michelle Peters, Emily Ham, Gwenda and Simon Kesans. Campers should report to any of these people if they feel unwell, unhappy or if they have been injured.
Food is supplied for children who are staying throughout, or coming on a daily basis.
Please can we ask that you let us know well before camp if your child has any special dietary requirements.
It was discussed in the committee meeting that the camp is for juniors and we hope that you as parents will be happy to leave your children is our team’s safe hands. It has been agreed that in the best interests of all concerned that all children at the camp must be fully participating in the activities offered. Parents who have volunteered to stay are helping to make camp successful for every junior attending and not shadowing their own children. This has been a huge success in the past and we hope it will be the same this year but if there are any areas of concern please contact myself to discuss the matter.
Mobile phones are allowed however we do not want to see them being used whilst lessons are being carried out!
Please make cheques out to BDS WALES and send to the above address.
If you wish to pay by BACS please contact the Treasurer for BDS Wales, Amanda Say on Tel: 01633 484776
Please note fees are required in full by 10th July to be sure of a place – cheques sent earlier will not be cashed before this date
Confirmation of attendance
BDS Wales camp is always extremely popular and one year we had 19 young drivers in addition to the helpers. In order to plan effectively please confirm you are coming and return the forms as soon as possible. It is advisable to book in early to avoid disappointment as places are limited.
